Phillip Gwynne and Patrick Burgess Waves of Justice: The TV show teaching viewers in Timor-Leste about human rights
Profile raising for a worthy cause.
Goal— Raise the profiles of human rights lawyer Patrick Burgess, President of Asia Justice and Rights (AJAR) and award winning writer Phillip Gwynne. And bring attention to their project with the Timorese government to educate the Timorese community through entertainment.
Strategy— Tensions in East Timor were topical for Australian outlets at the time of our campaign and we capitalised on this attention coordinating Patrick’s trip to Australia with media opportunities in print, radio and TV.
Result— A prime time new story on SBS News along with interviews on SBS Radio and ABC Radio’s The Conversation Hour along with a written piece by Patrick for The Guardian Australia resulted in increased attention for the work of AJAR and the Waves of Justice TV program.
