FAQs

I have a question about that! Right on hand-raiser, let’s see if we can find you an answer.

+ How long will it take for me to begin seeing media placements?

Probably looking at around 4 to 8 weeks. Most clients on standard PR or retainer packages start to see placements roll in at around week 4 or 6 of working with Righteous PR. But it can happen earlier in the campaign too and is dependent on the opportunities we’re going for.

Phew, I know, you have something to say and you’re keen to get it out there. Me, too! But getting good quality placements takes thought, planning, strategy and, yep, time.

In the planning and pitching phase I work through the media hit list we’ve created together (which generally includes outlets across online digital news platforms, print magazines and newspapers, tv, partnerships, and more).

I go after the faster platforms and easier opportunities, like online digital news, first. While also laying the groundwork for longer-term opportunities, like print magazines that often need a 12-week lead time to work with issue closing dates.

In the PR game, waiting is just as important as acting. Because part of the art of landing a pitch is knowing when the time is right to pounce on a story and knowing when to sit back and wait for a better time.

+ How long do I need to retain your PR Agency for?

We have a minimum 3-month term for our retainers so we have enough time to start creating awesome opportunities for you (see above re: how long does it take to get media placements).

Depending on what your goals are (and a bunch of other factors) we may suggest a 3, 6, 12 or 24-month retainer package (or beyond!).

+ What’s the difference between the book campaign package and the retainer package?

Book campaign packages are specifically for getting your book out into the world, but this can also be appropriate for launches or creative projects.

Retainer packages are for brands or services that don’t necessarily have an end goal, but want to achieve general, sustained brand awareness. They’re perfect for those who are kicking goals in business but don’t have the time to pitch themselves to different outlets. With a retainer package we’ll celebrate your wins (and make sure your audience knows about them, too).

Not sure what you need? Get in touch and we’ll help you nut it out.

+ Do I have to run a national campaign or can it be local?

You don’t have to do anything. In fact, we reckon local campaigns can be a great way to build support in your community (or beyond). We’re happy to run with just local, state-to-state, multiple states or all together! Hyperlocal news can be very beneficial

+ How far in advance should I book your services?

It depends on your project and your goals, but generally speaking, the longer we have the better! Because having a good media contact list is awesome, but when you have plenty of time to properly plan and execute a pitch at just the right moment? Well, that’s when the real magic happens.

So, if your project has already started or is halfway through you’re probably a little bit late.

Minimum lead times

Authors

+ How long does a book campaign go for?

Around 3-4 months. First we work out your target audience and media hit list, then we plan and execute your pitch and finally we schedule interviews into your public itinerary. After we’ve wrapped up, we create a full campaign report to use with publishers and booksellers to get your book on the shelves.

+ When do I have to start my book publicity campaign?

Ideally, you want to get started 12-months before your book release date. Especially if you don’t have an established social media presence.

But very few authors get started that early!

So, if 12-months isn’t realistic for you, it might be better to think about a 3-6 month timeline.

In that time frame you can get the basics sorted, launch your social media platform/s, set up a Goodread’s profile, create a budget and scout for a book publicist (sooner rather than later!).

Keep in mind that your publicist can only work with the time and content you give them. If your content is outdated or your timeline won’t work within media timeframes, you could be left feeling disappointed.

+ How long do I have to market my book?

The simplest answer? For as long as you want to sell it.

In Australia alone, more than 55,000 books are published every year, with more than half of those from indie authors.

Without PR and marketing your book risks getting lost in the noise. Especially when you consider that other authors are out there actively promoting their book with blog tours, social media, publicity, reviews and more.
